sorry mate.. seems that my eyes work in low-resolution mode now and I can't read properly anymore sorry for that. So Rbraz is then free to make any choice he wants to

Rbz sponsored half the prize fund

It's in the challenge rules that I posted on the DBF forum mate.

@Rbz: the "no shader" policy was more to make sure that the production is able to run for almost every one and also bring a bit of challenge when coding some routines.

You can write remakes using shaders, I've nothing against it. We'll see if this bothers anyone around and then maybe you will have to release a version without shaders.

After remaking about 100 crack intros, I found out that a lot of people use computers or at least out-of-date graphic cards. But again I can only warn you not predict that your prod will fail everywhere. So let's give it a try.

BTW, who said you cannot compete??? Your sponsorship?? never read that. Maybe Shockwave will tell me about it. On my behalf I'll be glad if you can be part of it.

@Stormbringer: of course none of those amiga intros need pixel shaders to be done.
As Shockwave said, for me it's just a challenge, since I'm newbie on PS/VS, I say to myself "Can I do this effect using PS/VS?".
My idea was to use ps2.0 to do a simple sinus scroller and maybe something else, the fact is if someone does not have a card that support ps2.0 he can't watch anything (intro/demo) that is 3 years old...

I'll *try* to do it because all those reason above, unless you guys *do not really* want anything like that here.
Btw, I'm not even sure if it's possible to make it looks like the original.

Anyway, I'll not compete because I'm one of the compo sponsors

Well, I have no problems with shaders since my gfxcard is relative modern (8800GTX). But I remember people at dbfinteractive.com have weak(er) hardware and it would be sad, if someone has to make a movie of the remake so everybody can enjoy it...

@Rbz & Shockwave: personnally I do not mind if you use shaders. I'm very up to date with graphic cards (having the latest Nvidia Quadro 4600 + SDI option)... shader models 1,2,3 and now 4 work very fine for me. Maybe this is something that would require feedback from others as well....

Rbz writes all his remakes in asm and uses them all as personal tech challenges, I don't see anything wrong in that, after all we all have our own reasons for writing them.

I am nervous about shaders for these intros too though because pixelshaders mean that the target computer needs a gfx card that is quite up to date and having a gem of a remake that won't run is a shame.

There is a compromise to be had perhaps, if a remake was using shaders and failed to work it would not be eligible for the comp anyway, but Stormbringer and I did chat for quite a while about Shaders and because this is Stormbringers site the rules of the competition have to reflect his wishes and standards.

As far as I am concerned I am happy to do what Stormbringer wants, and I certainly don't want to take away your motivation for making these remakes RBZ, you've made some really cool ones and been really supportive of this new site and you have our grattitude for that.

@rbz: We excluded the pixel shaders because of potential compatibility issues and also because the challenge is more about reproducing visual effects that do not need (and should not have) any interpolation/blending (since the Amiga was not capable of such things).

I personally use shaders every day for work and have nothing against them. I'll ask Shockwave about this (to have his opinion) .. but do you really need shaders??? I mean is it just for the sake of writing a sine scroller using the pixel shaders (personal tech challenge) or do you feel it's necessary for a production you want to remake??

Can you guys think about allowing pixel shaders on the remake compo. I would love to make a sinus scroller using pixel shaders
Of course it's coders job to make it compatible everywhere (ati/nvidia cards)

I just hope that I didn't mess the rules up too much, Stormbringer and I talked them over a while ago but I am on pretty strong medication at the moment and can't concentrate for long

Anyway this competition is long overdue! Lets hope we get some really nice additions for this library

@stormbringer : I checked my frameworks and yours, hmm, it's almost the same thing for the creation of window with ogl/glu, windows, etc...
the old-school way ? the keyboard is managed in your sources ?

Added a new logo by Ghost!

Btw, this site is so cool, I just dropped the new logo into the right folder and the software found it!

Tetra, you are unbelievably cool mate.

Could you give Ghost an extra 250 slams for the logo please?
